IndiGo, India’s largest carrier operated by InterGlobe Aviation, recorded a record passenger count of over 123 million in 2025, marking a significant growth from the previous year. The airline achieved this amid an expansion of its route network, launching long-haul flights connecting India to destinations like Manchester, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and London, utilizing its Boeing 787-9 aircraft in partnership with Norse Atlantic Airways. It also resumed direct flights to China and announced plans to serve Athens non-stop, employing its Airbus A321XLR aircraft, which will be India’s first in operation for medium- to long-haul flights.

In addition to fleet and route expansion, IndiGo doubled its Airbus A350-900 aircraft order to 60 units, signifying strong confidence in its international growth prospects. The airline also enhanced its loyalty program to over 9 million members and expanded connectivity across India with new airports and routes, targeting emerging cities and international gateways. The company’s strategic alliances through new codeshare agreements helped boost global connectivity, while operational resilience was demonstrated by its ability to manage industry-wide challenges.

Industry and outlook

CEO Pieter Elbers stressed that 2025 was characterized by execution and strategic network strengthening. Despite operational disruptions in early December, IndiGo maintained industry-leading on-time performance and continued to generate significant revenue, placing it among the top 20 airlines globally. Looking into 2026, the airline is poised for further growth with ongoing aircraft inductions, domestic densification, and international service launches, consolidating its position as a key player in the global aviation industry.

Shares of InterGlobe Aviation ended 2025 slightly higher at Rs 5,059.50, reflecting investor confidence amid the airline’s growth trajectory. As it advances into the new year, IndiGo’s focus remains on fleet expansion, operational excellence, and strategic international outreach, aiming to sustain its leadership in the competitive airline industry.
