Airline
SAS Scandinavian Airlines is the flag carrier of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. According to Wikipedia, it was founded on 1 August 1946 as a consortium pooling the transatlantic operations of the three national airlines, which fully merged in 1951. The head office is in Solna, Stockholm County. After a Chapter 11 restructuring, a consortium including Air France-KLM and the Danish government acquired stakes. In July 2025, Air France-KLM announced an agreement to raise its holding to 60.5% (Reuters). SAS left Star Alliance and joined SkyTeam in September 2024.
The hubs are Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm-Arlanda. Bergen, Gothenburg, Stavanger, Tromsø and Trondheim are focus cities. Including subsidiaries SAS Link and SAS Connect, the airline serves about 156 destinations, mainly in the Nordic countries and Europe, with long-haul services to North America and Asia.
Wikipedia gives a total of about 135 aircraft including subsidiaries and leased aircraft (retrieved September 2026). Its mainline table, dated August 2025, lists 72 aircraft in service:
Regional aircraft are operated through the subsidiaries. Current figures should be checked against the SAS Group fleet page.
Long-haul flights have SAS Business, SAS Plus and SAS Go. On the A330 and A350, Business seats are in a 1-2-1 layout and convert into flat beds of 196-202 cm, with power sockets and a 15-inch screen. SAS Plus is premium economy. SAS Go (economy) is 3-3 on short-haul aircraft, 2-4-2 on the A330 and 3-3-3 on the A350. On short-haul flights SAS Go includes free coffee and tea, except on very short routes. Meals are served to all passengers on long-haul flights.
