Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah International Airport (SZB), Kuala Lumpur

The airport at a glance

• Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, known as Subang Skypark (SZB), is in Subang, Selangor, in the Klang Valley west of central Kuala Lumpur. It was the capital's main airport from 1965 until Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) opened in 1998.
• Passenger jets returned on 1 August 2024 after a gap of about 22 years. The airport is mainly used by domestic and regional services, plus business and general aviation.
• Scheduled airlines today are Batik Air Malaysia, Firefly, Berjaya Air, Scoot, HK Express and TransNusa. Destinations include Penang, Langkawi, Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Kota Kinabalu, Singapore, Jakarta and Hong Kong.
• Traffic is still small. In December 2025 the airport handled 191,000 passengers, 34.4 per cent more than in November, according to Malaysia Airports (MAHB).
• The runway is 3,780 m long, one of the longest in the region, and the airport has a single passenger terminal (the SkyPark Terminal).

Terminal

• Passengers use one terminal, the SkyPark Terminal. The old Terminal 1 was demolished in 2003, and Terminal 2 is being redeveloped as business-aviation hangars.
• The terminal was refitted for jet operations in 2024 with a larger floor area, new check-in counters and self-service kiosks. The apron was reconfigured for Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft.

Getting into Kuala Lumpur

• There is no train. The KTM Skypark Link to KL Sentral has been suspended since 15 February 2023 because of low ridership. The nearest rail is Ara Damansara LRT station (Kelana Jaya line), where you change to bus 772.
• Rapid KL bus 772 runs between Pasar Seni (Central Market) and Subang Suria via the airport. It stops at the Ara Damansara and Asia Jaya LRT stations, and Pasar Seni is the connection for the city centre. Fares, hours and frequency should be checked with Rapid KL.
• Rapid KL feeder bus T804 links the airport with Kwasa Sentral station on the MRT Kajang line, via Subang Perdana.
• Taxis and ride-hailing cars are the alternative to buses. Subang is roughly 20 km from central Kuala Lumpur, and journey time depends on traffic.
• A shuttle bus runs between Subang Skypark and the KLIA terminals (T1 and T2). The journey takes about one hour depending on traffic.

Changing between Subang and KLIA

• Most international and long-haul services use KLIA in Sepang, so check the airport on every ticket when connecting on separate bookings.
• The Skypark–KLIA shuttle takes about an hour in normal traffic. Allow generous time for an onward international flight.

Arriving in Malaysia

• Since 1 January 2024, foreign visitors must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online before entering Malaysia. It can be filled in up to three days before arrival.
• Show your valid passport and the completed MDAC to the immigration officer.
• Exempt from the MDAC are Singapore citizens, diplomatic and official passport holders, Malaysian permanent residents and long-term pass holders, Brunei GCI holders, Brunei–Malaysia Frequent Traveller Facility holders, Thailand Border Pass holders and Indonesian PLB holders. Check visa rules for your nationality with the Malaysian immigration department (malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my) before travelling.

Lounges

• SkyLounge Xpress is in the domestic departure area and opens daily from 5.30am to 9pm. It has about 80 seats in roughly 2,225 sq ft, with complimentary refreshments, Wi-Fi and charging points. Walk-in entry costs RM130 per person and annual membership RM500 (prices from its November 2025 launch).
• SkyLounge by Naza is the original lounge, operating at the SkyPark Terminal. It has partnerships with airlines including Firefly and accepts Priority Pass and Dragon Pass members.

Practical information

• ATMs operated by Maybank and CIMB are available in the terminal; fees may apply.
• Adcrew Money Changer provides foreign currency exchange in the terminal.
• Baggage trolleys are available.

What's coming

• Batik Air Malaysia will start Subang–Miri and Subang–Sibu on 1 December 2026, three flights a week each with Boeing 737-800s. Subang–Bali (Denpasar) will start on 2 December 2026 with four flights a week (announced 15 October 2026).
• The Subang Airport Regeneration Plan (approved 2023) aims to turn Subang into a city airport with a first phase costing RM1.3 billion and a capacity of 5 million passengers a year. The target is 8 million passengers a year by 2030.
• The Transport Minister said in 2023 that the Skypark Link train would resume once the new terminal is ready, which he expected in 2027 or 2028. No restart date has been confirmed.
