Air New Zealand will launch a non-stop service between Christchurch and Bali in winter 2027 and will operate its Christchurch–Singapore route all year round, according to Travel Daily Media, which published the news on 30 October 2026. The changes mainly affect South Island travellers heading to South-East Asia, as well as international visitors coming to Christchurch.

New Christchurch–Bali service

Travel Daily Media reports that the Christchurch–Denpasar flight will operate three times a week during the winter season, running until the end of August 2027. The report does not give a start date, flight times or aircraft type for the route, although the image accompanying the article shows an Air New Zealand Boeing 787 in Bali.

The direct service is intended to reduce the need for connections through other airports. Chief Executive Nikhil Ravishankar is quoted as saying that flying direct means customers "can spend less time connecting through other airports and more time enjoying their holiday".

Singapore route made year-round

The airline has also extended its Christchurch–Singapore service so that it runs throughout the year. According to Travel Daily Media, the route gives South Island travellers access to Singapore, described as a major aviation hub, and makes Christchurch easier to reach for international visitors. The report does not say what the schedule was previously or what frequency will apply year-round.

Wider Christchurch growth plans

The announcement forms part of Air New Zealand's broader plans to grow its international network from Christchurch. Travel Daily Media says proposed seasonal services to Tokyo Narita and Perth are also in development, subject to regulatory and airport approvals, so these are not confirmed.

Ravishankar said: "Christchurch is an important part of Air New Zealand's future, and these new routes reflect the confidence we have here and the opportunities ahead for the South Island."

What this means for travellers

  • Bali: South Island travellers will have a direct option in winter 2027, three times a week, instead of connecting elsewhere. The service is due to run until the end of August 2027.
  • Singapore: Year-round operation should make it easier to plan trips and onward connections at any time of year, though frequencies have not been given.
  • Tokyo and Perth: These seasonal routes are only proposed, so travellers should not plan around them until approvals and schedules are confirmed.
