The aviation industry continues to see significant activity with airlines modifying their networks through route cancellations and new service launches. KLM has extended cancellations for flights to Riyadh and Dammam until June 14, citing regional uncertainties. Conversely, airlines like Contour Airlines and Jazeera Airways are introducing new routes, with Contour launching flights from Merced Yosemite Regional Airport to Las Vegas and Los Angeles, and Jazeera resuming service to Beirut from Dammam.

Meanwhile, airlines operating in Europe and Asia are expanding capacities. Vietnam Airlines is increasing frequencies on its Hanoi-Moscow route from July, using Boeing 787 aircraft, as part of broader European network growth. Air Serbia is resuming flights from Belgrade to Munich on May 22, marking a significant comeback after 18 years.

Additional route developments include
  • Air France boosting flights to key Asian and African destinations such as Bangkok, Tokyo, and Nairobi.
  • ITA Airways increasing frequencies to Bangkok and New Delhi during the summer peak.
  • Saudi LCC flyadeal launching its largest Hajj operation to transport nearly 85,000 pilgrims from multiple cities.
  • Flydubai starting daily flights from Dubai to Bangkok from July, in partnership with Emirates, and Saudi carrier flynas launching an inaugural route connecting Riyadh and Al Qaisumah.
  • British Airways adding routes to St. Louis and Guernsey from London Heathrow, expanding its North American and European presence.
  • Solomon Airlines reducing its flight frequencies until June due to surging fuel prices.

Additionally, Etihad Airways plans to expand its African routes with new services to Asmara, Accra, Kinshasa, Lagos, and a hub route connecting Harare and Lubumbashi, to commence late 2026 and early 2027. Canada's Air Transat will launch several new routes for the winter 2026-27 season and enhance its transatlantic offerings, including links to San José, Fort-de-France, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Paris, and Barcelona. In the Asian market, Phu Quoc Airways has introduced a new route from Phu Quoc to Seoul Incheon and plans to extend service to Busan.

Overall, these developments reflect ongoing recovery efforts and strategic expansions within the airline industry, responding to passenger demand and regional growth opportunities.
