American Airlines will launch nonstop flights between Miami and Barcelona, Venezuela, from 15 January 2027, according to Simple Flying and AirlineGeeks. The service will run three times a week and will be the first time American Airlines has served the city. It becomes the carrier's third Venezuelan destination after Caracas and Maracaibo.

Schedule and aircraft

Flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays using Embraer E175 aircraft. Simple Flying reports that the southbound flight leaves Miami at 10:15 and arrives in Barcelona at 14:52, taking about three and a half hours. The return departs at 15:32 and lands in Miami at 18:19. Times are given in local time.

According to Simple Flying, the 76-seat E175 offers First Class, Main Cabin Extra, Wi-Fi and in-seat power. It also lets American enter a new market with less capacity than a Boeing 737. Simple Flying reports that tickets go on sale on 19 October.

Rebuilding a Venezuelan network

American resumed flying to Venezuela in April 2026 after a gap of roughly seven years. Simple Flying says the Miami–Caracas service returned on 30 April, Maracaibo followed daily from 14 July, and a second daily Caracas frequency began on 15 October, combining a 737-800 with an E175.

Simple Flying also reports that two earthquakes on 24 June badly damaged Caracas's main international airport and halted American's operations there for more than two months. Scheduled Caracas service resumed on 3 September.

With Barcelona, the airline's Venezuelan network will offer 24 weekly departures and about 2,500 seats each way, per Simple Flying. Citing OAG data, it says American carried about 362,000 two-way seats in 2018, 58% of nonstop US–Venezuela capacity. The planned January 2027 schedule would equal about 72% of that, if operated unchanged for a full year.

Market and competition

Barcelona, in Anzoátegui state, is a commercial centre in eastern Venezuela. Together with nearby Puerto La Cruz it supports industrial activity including oil production and refining, and the Caribbean coast offers leisure potential. American's Stephen Neuman said the airline is proud to be "the only US airline serving Venezuela", as quoted by both outlets.

That position may not last. AirlineGeeks notes that United Airlines and JetBlue have announced plans to serve Caracas soon, while Simple Flying says Delta Air Lines is also pursuing opportunities.

What this means for travellers

  • Eastern Venezuela gains a direct link to Miami, with connections to more than 100 North American destinations through American's hub, according to Simple Flying.
  • Travellers from Europe can reach Barcelona by connecting in Miami, though neither source describes specific European routings or fares.
  • Tickets go on sale on 19 October for travel from 15 January 2027.
  • Capacity is limited to 76 seats per flight, three days a week, so availability may be tight at busy times.

Fares have not been reported. Schedules in Venezuela have already been disrupted this year, so checking the latest flight status before travelling is sensible.
