JetBlue put its new BlueFirst cabin on sale on 15 October 2026, with the first flights due on 8 December between Boston and Fort Lauderdale. The product is the airline's first traditional first-class offering, and it will be added to aircraft that do not have its Mint business class.

What BlueFirst offers

According to One Mile at a Time, JetBlue has chosen the Collins Aerospace MiQ seat, the same basic model used in American's domestic first class, customised for the carrier. Seats are arranged two by two, with up to 37 inches of pitch and up to five inches of recline. Each has a 13.3-inch seatback screen with Bluetooth connectivity, plus USB-A, USB-C and AC power.

Catering is built around bento-inspired boxes called FirstFare. On flights of 899 miles or longer, One Mile at a Time says each selection combines a main course, side and dessert. The site notes that JetBlue is not installing ovens on aircraft without Mint, so meals will be cold. Other features include seatback ordering with a "Mixologist Mode" for cocktails, wines from Parcelle, Group 1 boarding, dedicated overhead bin space, priority check-in and access to an expedited security lane.

AirlineGeeks reports up to seven inches of additional legroom compared with JetBlue's Main seating.

Routes and rollout

AirlineGeeks says BlueFirst can be booked on select flights across more than 30 routes. PaxEx.Aero counts some 40 markets on sale, with routes planned to come online through April 2027. The differing totals may reflect how routes and directions are counted.

The first flight, B6 1169 on 8 December, is reportedly fully booked in the front cabin, though other dates have seats available. Fort Lauderdale routes to Boston, Buffalo, Liberia (Costa Rica), LaGuardia and Washington National also start in December. January brings routes such as Boston to Austin and Houston, and several from Fort Lauderdale and New York JFK. Further February, March and April launches include Boston to Cancún, Denver, Orlando and Tampa. One Mile at a Time expects most non-Mint aircraft to be fitted during 2027, with the project finishing around the start of 2028.

Fares and Mosaic upgrades

One Mile at a Time reports introductory fares from $299 for Boston to Fort Lauderdale and from $249 for LaGuardia to Fort Lauderdale once that route opens. These are starting prices for BlueFirst Base, which has no seat selection and carries change fees, and the site says fares rise significantly from there.

JetBlue's Move to Mint certificates become Premium Upgrade Certificates, usable for BlueFirst. Mosaic members on most non-Basic fares will be eligible for complimentary space-available upgrades before departure. PaxEx.Aero says details were not immediately available, and one part of JetBlue's website suggested the window opens 60 minutes before departure.

What this means for travellers

  • BlueFirst can be booked now for travel from 8 December, though the launch flight's front cabin is reported full.
  • Economy will be tighter on reconfigured aircraft. PaxEx.Aero says an extra row is added behind the exit row, with a corresponding cut in legroom throughout; the exit row layout is unchanged. The headline pitch reduction from 32 to 30 inches was not stated in the sources provided to us.
  • Check the seat map before booking, as the JetBlue website will not show BlueFirst as sold out where it is offered but fully booked, according to PaxEx.Aero.
  • Cold meals and base-fare restrictions apply, so compare the fare conditions carefully.

Details of how space-available upgrades will work are due in the coming weeks.
