Qatar Airways will begin flying between Doha and Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) on 15 December 2027, according to AeroTime. The airport announced the route on 21 October 2026. Tickets are due to go on sale on 19 December 2026.

Schedule and aircraft

The route will start with three weekly flights, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with the first service scheduled for Wednesday 15 December 2027. AeroTime reports that the airline plans to build to daily service by the end of 2028.

Flights from Doha are timed to arrive at WSI at 23:45 local time. The return departs WSI at 16:10 local time the following day and is due in Doha at 23:00 local time.

The aircraft will be a Boeing 777-300ER with up to 354 seats: 42 in Qsuite Business Class and 312 in Economy.

Backing and official comment

AeroTime says the route received support from the Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund, which is jointly backed by the New South Wales government and WSI. Qatar Airways Group CEO Hamad Al Khater described it as "the next chapter in our long-standing partnership with Australia". He said the airport’s round-the-clock operation would bring more visitors to New South Wales and give exporters a direct cargo link to the Gulf and beyond.

Federal Transport Minister Catherine King said the Doha connection would let travellers from Western Sydney board a second leg to any corner of the globe.

Wider winter network

The announcement follows the airline’s September plan to serve more than 170 destinations in the 2026–2027 winter season, with nearly 1,800 weekly flights planned for December 2026. Australian changes reported by AeroTime include:

  • Daily Canberra flights via Melbourne resuming from 9 December 2026.
  • Melbourne doubling from seven to 14 weekly flights on the same date.
  • Sydney rising from seven to 14 weekly flights, with Brisbane and Perth restarting at three and four weekly flights.
  • Partner Virgin Australia adding Doha flights from December 2026, bringing combined weekly service to 21 from Sydney, 10 from Brisbane and 11 from Perth.

Elsewhere, Phuket rises from 14 to 21 weekly flights from 25 October 2026 and the Maldives from 12 to 21. Kuala Lumpur gets 18 weekly Qatar Airways flights alongside 14 from Malaysia Airlines. London Heathrow goes from 49 to 56 weekly flights from 25 October 2026, and four Saudi cities resume between October 2026 and January 2027.

What this means for travellers

  • Western Sydney gains a direct link to Doha, and from there one-stop connections on Qatar Airways’ network.
  • Fares can be booked from 19 December 2026 for travel from 15 December 2027.
  • Late-night arrivals at WSI (23:45) are worth factoring into onward transport plans.
  • The three-weekly pattern limits flexibility until daily service arrives, expected by the end of 2028.
  • Fares and the cabin products on sale have not been detailed in the source.

Sydney’s existing flights to Doha are also set to double from December 2026, giving travellers more choice sooner.
