Singapore Airlines has made a personal concierge service for first class passengers departing Changi Airport permanent, following a trial of several weeks, according to One Mile at a Time. The service applies to customers travelling in first class and, on the A380, Suites, and covers the journey from arrival at the airport to the aircraft door.

How the service works

One Mile at a Time reports that the service begins on arrival, when a porter helps with luggage so passengers can go straight to the first class check-in area. There they are offered chilled hand towels while formalities are handled.

After check-in, passengers are escorted through immigration and on to The Private Room, the airline's lounge at Changi. Once there, the personal concierge can monitor the flight, assist with rebooking if operations are disrupted, and take care of requests such as shopping, the outlet says.

At boarding time, the airline will drive passengers to the gate in a golf cart where possible, help them skip the queue, and escort them along the jet bridge to the aircraft door. Passengers can choose whether to board first or last.

Why it matters at Changi

According to One Mile at a Time, first class passengers previously had to make their own way from check-in to the lounge and from the lounge to the gate. The outlet notes that at Changi Terminals 2 and 3 security screening is typically carried out at each individual gate, which made clearing security less seamless for premium passengers. The concierge service is intended to help with that step.

The same source describes the change as a minor but positive improvement, noting that Changi is already an efficient airport and that the service is not strictly necessary. It argues that competition in first class is now about reducing friction and adding extras as well as covering the basics.

Part of a wider upgrade

One Mile at a Time links the timing to Singapore Airlines' plan to introduce a new first class product in 2027. The airline has already announced updates to inflight dining and amenities across its cabins, which the outlet says are being rolled out now. The outlet presents the connection as its own reading of the timing rather than something the airline has stated.

What this means for travellers

For passengers in first class or Suites departing from Singapore, the practical benefits are help with bags on arrival, an escort through immigration, a single point of contact in the lounge, and assistance at the gate, including with security. The concierge can also help with rebooking if a flight is disrupted. Travellers can choose whether to board first or last, though the golf cart transfer is offered only when possible.

The service is described as applying to Changi departures only. The sources do not say whether it extends to passengers in other cabins, or whether the airline plans any changes to it when the new first class product arrives.
