Lufthansa will start nonstop flights between Munich and Phoenix Sky Harbor on 3 August 2027, the first regular scheduled service by any Lufthansa Group airline to Arizona. Flights will operate three times a week on an Airbus A350-900, according to One Mile at a Time and AirlineGeeks.
The service will run on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. AirlineGeeks reports that the westbound flight leaves Munich at 1.20pm and reaches Phoenix at 4pm, while the return departs Phoenix at 5.50pm and arrives in Munich at 1.25pm the next day, all in local time. One Mile at a Time puts the distance at 5,823 miles and describes the route as year-round, as does AirlineGeeks.
The Points Guy reports that the aircraft will have 48 business class suites, 21 premium economy seats and 224 economy seats. It will not have the airline's newer Allegris interior. One Mile at a Time makes the same point, adding that this suggests an older A350 without first class.
AirlineGeeks says Phoenix is one of 10 new intercontinental connections in Lufthansa Group's summer 2027 schedule, which it calls the group's largest network expansion since 2020. Other changes include Frankfurt–Columbus, Ohio, from 5 May 2027, and more Munich–Chicago flights. Edelweiss will add Tampa, and Discover Airlines will start Frankfurt–Edmonton.
The Points Guy says Phoenix takes the group's US destinations to 26. It also reports that Lufthansa will move its Seattle services to Munich and Frankfurt to Discover Airlines, using an A330, with the weekly frequency unchanged. Discover is not in Star Alliance, so loyalty benefits are not guaranteed, including for United MileagePlus members.
One Mile at a Time notes that Discover, then branded Eurowings Discover, planned Frankfurt–Phoenix for spring 2020 but the pandemic stopped it. Condor flew a German route to Phoenix until it was cut in 2025.
AirlineGeeks lists current long-haul service from Air France, China Airlines, STARLUX and British Airways. One Mile at a Time adds that American Airlines, Phoenix's hub carrier, also flies to London. It says Phoenix will now have transatlantic service from all three joint ventures, though Lufthansa's frequency is far lower than American's or British Airways'.
The same outlet notes that the launch falls after the peak summer season, which it considers sensible from a European point of sale.
