Virgin Atlantic launched the first nonstop flights between London Heathrow (LHR) and Phuket International Airport (HKT) on 18 October 2026, according to AeroTime. The seasonal winter service uses Boeing 787-9 aircraft and is the first direct link between Heathrow and the Thai island.

Schedule and timings

AeroTime reports that the airline announced the route almost a year ago. Citing schedule data from the analytics company Cirium, it says the service runs three times a week from mid-October to late March.

  • VS214: departs Heathrow at 15:45 local time and arrives in Phuket at 09:55 the next day, a scheduled 12 hours 10 minutes.
  • VS215: departs Phuket at 11:45 local time and lands in London at 19:20 the same day, a scheduled 13 hours 40 minutes.

The turnaround in Phuket is 110 minutes, per the same report.

Aircraft and cabins

Virgin Atlantic’s 787-9s seat 258 passengers, AeroTime says. That comprises 31 Upper Class flatbed seats in a 1-1-1 layout, 35 Premium seats in a 2-3-2 layout and 192 Economy seats in a 3-3-3 layout, of which 36 are Economy Delight seats with extra legroom. The outlet adds that the airline plans to reconfigure its 787 fleet with more premium seating: 44 Upper Class, 56 Premium and 127 Economy seats. The report does not say when the refit will happen or whether it will affect the Phuket route.

Competition

AeroTime describes Phuket as a popular winter destination for European travellers and notes that Virgin Atlantic faces established competition. TUI flies to Phuket from UK airports including London Gatwick and Manchester, and from several Nordic cities. Condor serves the island from Frankfurt, and Norse Atlantic Airways flies from Oslo, according to the report.

What this means for travellers

Travellers from London can now reach Phuket without changing aircraft, with an outbound flight of just over 12 hours arriving in the morning. The service runs only three days a week and only through the winter season to late March, so flexibility on dates will matter. The sources do not give fares, the operating days or details of onward connections; these should be checked with the airline when booking. The cabin layout may change if the planned 787 refit reaches this route.
