United Airlines will launch nonstop flights from Los Angeles International (LAX) and San Francisco International (SFO) to Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) in Traverse City, Michigan, from 19 June next summer, according to The Points Guy. The details were shared by the airport on Thursday, and tickets are on sale now. The routes are seasonal, running through the peak summer period.
The Points Guy reports that United Airlines will fly the California services on Saturdays from 19 June to 11 September. Flights will also operate on select Wednesdays, namely 30 June to 7 July and 1 to 8 September, which bracket the National Cherry Festival period.
According to the airport, the aircraft will be a Boeing 737-800. The Points Guy describes this as having 16 domestic first-class recliners in four rows and 150 main cabin seats, with the number of Economy Plus extra-legroom seats varying between jets.
Traverse City sits on Grand Traverse Bay, an arm of Lake Michigan, and is a popular summer destination. The Points Guy notes the National Cherry Festival, a century-old event that includes an air show, will feature the US Navy's Blue Angels in 2027. The airport said the service would give it its "first-ever coast-to-coast nonstop footprint".
United already serves TVC from its other mainland US hubs, including Chicago, Denver, Houston and Washington Dulles, so the new routes add the two West Coast hubs.
The Points Guy also reports that United will start flights from San Francisco to Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) on 29 March, operating twice weekly all year. With Traverse City and Jacksonville, the outlet counts seven new routes from the Bay Area hub in the last couple of weeks. Several are new transcontinental services, including to Hartford, Richmond, Norfolk and Charleston.
Visitors from California can now plan summer 2027 trips to northern Michigan without connecting, and tickets can already be booked. Flying is limited, however: mostly Saturdays, plus a few Wednesdays around the cherry festival and early September. Anyone wanting to attend the festival or the Blue Angels display should check the dates against their plans. Fares were not given in the source. Outside these dates, travellers will still need to connect through United's other hubs.
